Yoko Ono (born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese-American multimedia artist, singer, songwriter and peace activist.
My main reason for including Yoko in the Misinterpreted Icon series is simple. The stigma that has stuck with her about John vs the Beatles has been dispelled and corrected by reputable sources for decades, yet the stigma remains. This is despite the outstanding contributions to world humanitarian causes, her own artistic recognition, her support of yet unrecognised artists and an undying ambition towards world peace.
There is no logical reason for this continued misinterpretation other than the sexist male ego society who find it easier to believe hype, than the reality of mates letting harsh words get out of hand. I prefer to believe the word of the people who were actually there than people who would devote a lifetime to hate.
